This bachelor thesis explores the development and current state of Slovak skateboard photography since 1991, with a focus on the aesthetic, cultural, and social aspects that define this specific photographic subgenre. Skateboard photography is not merely a documentation of athletic performance, but also an artistic and subcultural expression that visualizes the interaction between skateboarders and urban space. The thesis traces its historical roots, the influence of global trends, the digital revolution, and shifts in media, while emphasizing the contributions of Slovak photographers to shaping the local identity of the subculture. It also analyses the role of photography in subcultural media and highlights its importance as a visual archive and a tool for forming collective memory.
